Q:
What is sulforaphane glucosinolate? And what does it do in the body?
A:
Sulforaphane Glucosinolate is an active ingredient in broccoli proven to have anti-oxidant and detoxification benefits, as well as promote cellular integrity. Upon ingestion of the Vitalica® capsule, sulforaphane glucosinolate activates the body’s Phase 2 response. Please refer to “The Research” section of this website.

Q:
What is C S Health and how can I contact them?
A:
C S Health is a division of Caudill Seed Company, worked with researchers to develop, by way of natural breeding techniques, a broccoli seed having as much as 300% greater amounts of sulforaphane glucosinolate, than had been previously recorded.

Q:
Are all varieties of broccoli sprouts rich in sulforaphane glucosinolate?
A:
No. Scientist and Researchers have tested over 50 of the 80 varieties of broccoli currently available and their work shows that only a few produce high concentrations of,sulforaphane glucosinolate.

Q:
Doesn't broccoli also contain sulforaphane glucosinolate?
A:
Research has demonstrated that broccoli sprouts and mature broccoli contain levels of sulforaphane glucosinolate, more so in sprouts. However,Moreover, sulforaphane glucosinolate levels in BroccoRaphanin™ and Vitalica® are even higher, as the origin of their sulforaphane glucosinolate is from specially selected broccoli seeds, that contain much higher levels of sulforaphane glucosinolate than either mature broccoli or broccoli sprouts.

Q:
Are other broccoli-based supplements just as good?
A:
Other supplements do not contain significant levels of sulforaphane unless sulforaphane glucosinolate appears on their label.

Q:
Is the broccoli used for Vitalica ®genetically engineered?
A:
No. The seed used for the production of Vitalica® is completely natural. The researchers have spent years culling the varieties of broccoli seed that had been bred to produce the highest sulforaphane glucosinolate, content. Only those varieties of seeds are cultivated for Vitalica®.

Q:
How long can I keep / store Vitalica®? What is the shelf life?
A:
Vitalica® ought to be kept in cool (room temperature) conditions, in the absence of excess humidity. If properly stored, and the foil packet “blister” is not compromised, Vitalica® will conform to the expiration date printed on its foil packet. We have extensively tested the sulforaphane glucosinolate content of Vitalica® and its potency does not decline prior to its printed expiration date. The compound is very stable.

Q:
What is the shelf life?
A:
Once the product is shipped to your retailer for sale, Vitalica® easily conforms to its labeled guarantees until such time as the expiration date, located on the rear of its foil pack, is reached. If the foil pack is compromised, or if Vitalica® is exposed to excessive heat and humidity, it will deteriorate faster. Conform to the recommended storage instructions and keep in a cool (room temperature) dry location. We have extensively tested the sulforaphane glucosinolate, content of Vitalica® and the potency does not decline prior to its printed expiration date. The compound is very stable.

Q:
How much broccoli would I have to eat daily to reach the equivalent of 30 mg. of sulforaphane glucosinolate, the amount contained in each Vitalica® capsule?
A:
We are often asked this question, but it is not easily answered. The correct answer is that one cannot correlate the sulforaphane glucosinolate contents of Vitalica® to mature broccoli. There are several reasons for this, among them:

a.
CS Health has tested sulforaphane glucosinolate levels from a wide variety of mature broccoli. The samples we chose were taken directly from the produce sections of grocery stores and farmer’s markets-- where we found mature broccoli, we tested it! We found that sulforaphane quantities among broccoli varieties fluctuated widely. Some broccoli contained zero sulforaphane glucosinolate while others had varying levels. The variety of broccoli you purchase and consume on one day is likely to differ on your next purchase. And ask yourself this, “Do I ever know the broccoli variety I am purchasing on any given day?”
b.
As broccoli ages, the amount of sulforaphane glucosinolate it contains drops significantly
c.
The sulforaphane content of broccoli is further reduced, and often eliminated entirely, by storage and preparation (cooking) methods.
d.
If sulforaphane content is reduced over the life of the plant, then broccoli seeds contain the highest levels of sulforaphan glucosinolate. CS Health conducted tests on broccoli seeds in the same manner as mature broccoli, and found vast differences in content among broccoli seed varieties, some having zero sulforaphane while others showed low to higher levels.
e.
CS Health, an agricultural company with over 50 years experience, using traditional breeding methods over a 7 year period, developed a broccoli variety very high in sulforaphane glucosinolate. In fact, our broccoli, for which we hold a seed patent, or PVP, registered a quantity of sulforaphane glucosinolate over 300% greater than the highest value we have ever recorded while testing other broccoli varieties.
f.
Our broccoli will not be grown for distribution, as mature broccoli, to the produce area of your market. Therefore, no conclusions may be drawn between Vitalica and mature broccoli consumption. If pushed for an answer, we may say that it would take several pounds of our broccoli variety daily, and an incrementally higher amount of other broccoli varieties to attain 30 mg. of BroccoRaphanin™. Of course, if the variety of broccoli being eaten has no sulforphane then no amount that could be consumed will deliver the sulforaphane benefits.
